⚠️ Counterfeit Medicine Warning

Counterfeit medicines can cause serious harm. Here is how to protect yourself.

1. Why Counterfeits Are Dangerous

  • Wrong or no active ingredient — your condition stays untreated.
  • Toxic substances may be substituted in.
  • Incorrect dosage — overdose or underdose.
  • Contamination — bacteria, fungi or industrial chemicals.
  • Antibiotic resistance is accelerated.
  • Can be life-threatening for chronic conditions like heart disease or diabetes.

2. How to Spot a Counterfeit

  • Check the hologram and security mark on the packaging.
  • Verify the batch number and expiry date.
  • Compare the packaging to a previous, known-genuine pack.
  • Look for poor print quality, misspellings or odd colors.
  • Check the manufacturer's address on the label.
  • Pill shape, size, color or smell differing from previous purchases is a red flag.
  • An unusually low price below the standard market range is suspicious.
  • Always buy from licensed pharmacies — never unverified street vendors.

3. If You Receive a Counterfeit

  • DON'T consume it.
  • Photograph the packaging and the pills.
  • Keep the original packaging and receipt.
  • Contact the pharmacy immediately for refund / replacement.
  • Report to the State Drugs Controller and CDSCO.
  • If you have already consumed it and feel unwell, call 102 / 108 immediately.
