⚠️ Counterfeit Medicine Warning
Counterfeit medicines can cause serious harm. Here is how to protect yourself.
1. Why Counterfeits Are Dangerous
- Wrong or no active ingredient — your condition stays untreated.
- Toxic substances may be substituted in.
- Incorrect dosage — overdose or underdose.
- Contamination — bacteria, fungi or industrial chemicals.
- Antibiotic resistance is accelerated.
- Can be life-threatening for chronic conditions like heart disease or diabetes.
2. How to Spot a Counterfeit
- Check the hologram and security mark on the packaging.
- Verify the batch number and expiry date.
- Compare the packaging to a previous, known-genuine pack.
- Look for poor print quality, misspellings or odd colors.
- Check the manufacturer's address on the label.
- Pill shape, size, color or smell differing from previous purchases is a red flag.
- An unusually low price below the standard market range is suspicious.
- Always buy from licensed pharmacies — never unverified street vendors.
3. If You Receive a Counterfeit
- DON'T consume it.
- Photograph the packaging and the pills.
- Keep the original packaging and receipt.
- Contact the pharmacy immediately for refund / replacement.
- Report to the State Drugs Controller and CDSCO.
- If you have already consumed it and feel unwell, call 102 / 108 immediately.
