3. Signs You Should Seek Help

  • Persistent low mood for more than two weeks.
  • Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy.
  • Sleep changes — insomnia or excessive sleeping.
  • Appetite or weight changes.
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions.
  • Feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness.
  • Increased anxiety, panic attacks or racing thoughts.
  • Thoughts of self-harm — please reach out immediately.
  • Substance use as coping.

4. Helping a Loved One

  • Listen without judging or trying to fix.
  • Ask directly — talking about suicide does not increase risk.
  • Take threats seriously.
  • Stay with the person if they are in crisis.
  • Help them contact a helpline or doctor.
  • Reduce access to means of harm (medicines, sharp objects).
  • Take care of yourself too — supporting someone is exhausting.

5. About Mental-Health Medication

  • Mental-health medications work — they save lives.
  • Take them exactly as prescribed.
  • Don't stop suddenly — speak to your psychiatrist first.
  • Side effects often reduce after a few weeks.
  • Combining therapy with medication is most effective.
  • Always tell every doctor you see about your mental-health medication.
