2. Counseling & Therapy
- Your local government hospital usually has a psychiatry OPD.
- Private therapists and clinical psychologists — many offer sliding-scale fees.
- Online platforms: speak with a licensed therapist via video or chat.
- Workplace EAP: many employers offer free counselling.
- Student wellness centres: most universities have free counsellors.
3. Signs You Should Seek Help
- Persistent low mood for more than two weeks.
- Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy.
- Sleep changes — insomnia or excessive sleeping.
- Appetite or weight changes.
- Difficulty concentrating or making decisions.
- Feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness.
- Increased anxiety, panic attacks or racing thoughts.
- Thoughts of self-harm — please reach out immediately.
- Substance use as coping.
4. Helping a Loved One
- Listen without judging or trying to fix.
- Ask directly — talking about suicide does not increase risk.
- Take threats seriously.
- Stay with the person if they are in crisis.
- Help them contact a helpline or doctor.
- Reduce access to means of harm (medicines, sharp objects).
- Take care of yourself too — supporting someone is exhausting.
5. About Mental-Health Medication
- Mental-health medications work — they save lives.
- Take them exactly as prescribed.
- Don't stop suddenly — speak to your psychiatrist first.
- Side effects often reduce after a few weeks.
- Combining therapy with medication is most effective.
- Always tell every doctor you see about your mental-health medication.
